Seesaw Lehigh University 2016
On October 11th, Sigma Chi and Alpha Omicron Pi will be kicking off their annual 50-hour Seesaw philanthropy event. Seesaw is a tradition that Sigma Chi, Alpha Omicron Pi, and the Lehigh community look forward to every year. While out on the front lawn seesawing for 50 hours straight, our members work hard to raise awareness and funds for a philanthropic cause that’s close to our hearts. For 2016, we’ve chosen Lung Cancer Alliance as our charity and we plan to advocate specifically for a form of lung cancer caused by an ALK gene mutation. This year Seesaw is especially meaningful because a member of Alpha Omicron Pi’s mother has been battling stage-4 lung cancer that was caused by an ALK mutation.
Lung Cancer Alliance is the leading and highest rated nonprofit organization dedicated to fighting lung cancer in the nation. They run an initiative called “End the Stigma” which serves to reverse the mindset that people who suffer from lung cancer “deserved it.” This mindset is often adopted because people view smoking as the main cause of lung cancer. However, lung cancer does not discriminate and thousands of non-smokers suffer from this deadly disease. Each year, lung cancer claims more lives than colon, breast and prostate cancer combined and we need your help to put an end to the stigma. Please donate now to help fund innovative research for a cure and assist people across the country impacted by lung cancer.
